Rick Wood, a photo journalist with the Milwaukee Sentinel, visited North Korea in 1997 with a team from Worldwide Leadership Council. Jim Groen, President of WLC and former President of Youth for Christ International, was permitted by the government of North Korea, and under our State Department to visit North Korea. Ruth Graham's Ministry in North Korea
North Korean and American flags were handed out to the people in the streets. Later, the team visited the school and church where the late Rev. Billy Graham's wife, Mrs. Ruth Bell Graham, attended school in North Korea. Her mother and father had been medical missionaries in China with the China Inland Mission. Dr. and Mrs. Bell, had sent their daughter Ruth to North Korea to a missionary boarding school. There are still elderly members of that church and school in North Korea, in their 80's and 90's now. They all got on their knees, prayed, and sang "How Great Thou Art" together on Easter Sunday 1997. Read more on The Graham Family Legacy in North Korea.
Rick will never forget the people or the missionary good fruit planted in the 1800's in China, Korea, Japan, Viet Nam, Thailand, the entire Asian area with China Inland Mission, Queen Victoria, the Salvation Army from London, and Hudson Taylor, C.T. Studd, Eric Liddell, the Flying Scotsman, all with CIM. Enjoy the pictures of his trip of rare photos never seen before. In North Korea, evangelism is not permitted and the team was watched carefully by the government. All felt the presence of the Holy Spirit when the remnant and their group sang together that Easter morning over 20 years ago.
