Miramar Beach is Open!

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

The Montecito Fire Department led a small Village parade today to our Miramar Beach which is open. Cars were decorated, happy children, happy Moms, students, elderly, everyone heading to the beach. It's sunny and warm and the sunshine feels so good after being house-bound due to the virus. Some beach goers are wearing their masks, shorts, tee shirts, flip flops, bathing suits, and everyone is social distancing, but it is joyous and refreshing to see everyone having fun at the beach again. 74 degrees, sun, surf, ocean, sand, Pacific Ocean, shells, seagulls, sandcastles...surf's up! April 22, 2020!

The Historic Rosewood Miramar Hotel

The fashionable Miramar Hotel at Miramar Beach was built by Josiah and Emmaline Doulton in the final decade of the nineteenth century, and with the newly-established rail system, attracted patrons, people of means, from the East Coast and Midwest seeking to escape the icy grip of winter. The guests enjoyed the quaint cottages, pristine beach, central dining area, and California warmth and would spend two months or longer as patrons of the Miramar.

They arrived by rail and Montecito's warmth and charm and beach and Doulton's hospitality attracted many travelers then and now. The family sold the famous hotel and its cottages were closed in 2000. New owners built an elegant hotel, the Rosewood Miramar Hotel which opened in February 2019 and is truly a work of art, on the same Miramar Beach that the Doulton’s built on in the late 1800s. A century later, all enjoy the special, hidden, Miramar Beach which is a public beach enjoyed by surfers, children, dogs on leashes, families, as well as the patrons of the Hotel.
