Holiness in California

When we Vietnamers were searching for truth after the Viet Nam War in the early 1970's, many of us settled in the San Francisco, California Bay Area. To our surprise, thousands of Stanford students and Professors and Staff attended Pastor Ray Stedman's Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, California. He taught the Bible only and Basic Christianity. Many of us bought a Bible for the first time in our lives since we had been raised in liberal denominational churches growing up. Ray Stedman deserves credit for intellectuals coming to Jesus and the Bible. Another influence was Plymouth Brethren Bible teacher Bill MacDonald of the Oakland, California area. We owe a debt of gratitude to these men of God who fearlessly taught the Bible to the Vietnam generation. May they rest in peace: J. Vernon McGee, Bill MacDonald, Ray Stedman, Dawson Trotman, John Stott, C. S. Lewis, Billy Graham, C.T. Studd, David Forbes Morgan, Luis Palau, Portland, Oregon Bible College.

The Fascinating Story of William MacDonald

A commended worker for sixty years, a teacher, preacher, mentor, and author of eighty-four books, including the Believer's Bible Commentary, William MacDonald was a man who said and wrote much. Yet, for the those who knew him well, it was his life that left the greatest impression.

"As you topped the first flight of stairs, Bill would be waiting at his apartment door with a smile and a hearty handshake, or if he knew you well, a hug. Unlike many who become grumpy and bitter as they grow old, Bill grew more warm-hearted and sympathetic as he aged. More like Christ."
